This week, Ally got a chance to hold the whole world in her hands for just a little bit as she explored our nation’s capital, all by herself.
The photography in this post is all her, up until the photos at the end of her re-entry. She took an online class with me before she left. I think she did REALLY well with her little Olympus point and shoot camera.
She came home with about a million stories of all she had seen and done. She graciously allowed me to share some of the things that touched her heart the most.
Tomb of the unknown Soldier
MLK Memorial
Top of the Washington Monument
A party at the White House
She wanted so badly to visit the new National Museum of African American History and Culture. Sadly, the opening was delayed. She did grab a pic of the outside of it. She says we’ll just have to go back and all tour it when it opens. I thought that was a great plan.
Instead, she went to the Holocaust Museum. She was appropriately reverent as she told me about the day she spent there. I asked if she could tell me about it. She said she could not. And, she has no pictures, because “that’s not at all appropriate.” A world of maturity in 14 years on earth.
Then, she finally returned. Cate leapt at her the second she was off the bus.
She came bearing gifts. Of unicorns…for Tessa.
Gigi wanted this rainbow maned unicorn BADLY.
She exchanged it for a donut. Which is a sign she also uses often.
And, just like that, our world is right again, and still, full of sass.
